The whereabouts of a female regent who was been abducted by unknown
gunmen on her way to attend the 69TH Inaugural lecture of the Federal
University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo state, is still unknown.
Princess Mojisola Omosowon, the regent of Akungba Akoko Township in Ondo state, was kidnapped along Owo-Akure Road on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.
Palace
sources quoted on online reports say masked men shot sporadically as
they seized the regent and a driver that had come to convey her to the
programme.
“The regent was kidnapped on her way to
FUTA in Akure, where she was officially invited to attend the inaugural
lecture of the university," the source said.
"The gunmen wore masks and ordered her to enter into a waiting vehicle.
“They shot in the air to scare away travellers on the road. The kidnap was well coordinated."
Despite the regent's kidnap, the lecture continued as scheduled with the Vice Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, delivering the 69TH Inaugural with the title “Nigeria’s Agricultural Policy, Productivity and Poverty: The Critical Nexus".
It is unknown if the regent's kidnappers have named a ransom sum.
