Senate President, David Mark has revealed that he was attacked by hoodlums on his way to President Muhammadu Buhari’s inauguration ceremony.
Mark
revealed further that the windscreen of his car was smashed by the
thugs on his way to the Eagle Square in Abuja, where the May 29 event
held.
The Senate President made the disclosure on
Tuesday, June 2, 2015, during a plenary session of the upper house,
according to ThisDay.
Mark said further that both Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan deserved to be congratulated for ensuring a smooth transition of power in Nigeria.
“The
important message here is that we had a peaceful and smooth transfer of
power. We should also thank the former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan
for this. For the first time in this country, the result of a
presidential election is not before a tribunal,” Mark said.
“It’s
a milestone. That is a milestone and demonstration of the will of the
people. So, it is not enough to congratulate Buhari, we must also
congratulate the former president who accepted defeat and also appealed
to his followers to accept the verdict...So, we congratulate Buhari,
Jonathan and Nigerians,” he added.
Mark also
criticized Senators who had become governors saying that they didn’t
deserve to be congratulated because they had taken a step backward.
